The "Singapore Caning Sessions"

(and other looks at the practice of caning.)

"Why is this page devoted to the practice of caning?"

Well, in 1997 a friend of mine visited Singapore on business. We were in contact via e-mail and needless to say, the practice of caning became a constant topic of conversation for us.

My initial reaction, other than finding the practice humorous, was that it was somewhat "backward" or cruel. I have since changed my personal opinion on the practice of caning. I have come to respect it. Not only does it appear to work as a deterrent to crime, but as an American, who am I to question the practices of other nations?

Also, I still find the subject humorous.

You may have arrived here looking for another John Buckner. I'm John A. Buckner, born in Lexington KY, and living here in Athens, GA since 1985. There is at least one other John Buckner, born in Florida who also lives in Athens, GA. It's sort of odd for a town this size to have 2 of us because it's not that common of a name. There is a character played by Kiefer Sutherland in the movie "Flashback" named John Buckner. I wish I could say it's the greatest movie ever made but I found it only mildly entertaining.
